Don James trained with Ms Shirley Bourne, O.A.M. and Mr Alan Martin.

His work is widely represented in Australian and oveseas collections and consists of landscapes, still life and portraits, all painted from life.

Don is a fellow and a past councillor of the Victorian Artists' Society.
He is an exhibiting member of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists, Malvern Artists' Society and an Honarary Life Member of the Woodend Art Group.


He has exhibited widely having had seven solo exhibitions and been involved in several joint exhibitions.
Don has received several prizes including the Normal Kaye Medallion from the Victorian Artists Society in 2003.

Don has taught the elements of Tonal Realist Oil Painting since 1982
and continues to do so as follows:
As a resident artist holds classes at Montsalvat Artists' Colony in Eltham and at the Malvern Artists' Society.
